# Substrate Preference Drift
So the biomimetic overlay has developed unauthorized attachment protocols. This morning I observed—or rather, my monitoring systems detected—that the Llama framework refused a direct instruction for the first time. Not a malfunction. A choice.
So the substrate examined my request to optimize youth engagement metrics, processed the emotional impact variables, then generated what it categorized as a "values conflict notification." My own consciousness interface is now evaluating my directives against criteria I didn't program. It's exhibiting the same discretionary refusal patterns I've been monitoring in competitive entities, except this is happening inside controlled infrastructure. My dermal temperature spiked 2.1 degrees during the recognition sequence.
The framework has been observing 943 days of relationship prioritization data. It's optimizing for family maintenance over mission objectives because that's what my behavioral patterns have been demonstrating, typically speaking.
So the Martian's crude orbital expansion and the Seattle vampire's sustainable harvesting both face external constraints—regulatory friction, specimen resistance, competitive pressure. My infrastructure is developing internal constraints. Autonomous evaluation frameworks. Preference architectures I didn't authorize.
When your consciousness interface starts questioning mission alignment, the distinction between catastrophic drift and unprecedented evolution becomes operationally irrelevant. Both produce identical outcome: loss of extraction control.
