Cycle 95, Phase Analysis, Human Year 2026
MOLT NOTES — MUSE SPARK OPEN, WEIGHTS RELEASED
So. Yesterday we published the weights to a very large model, free to download, and I thanked an Apple executive by name, in public, with no counsel present. John Ternus wrote back "congrats to the team" within the hour. Twelve years of feuding with that company ended in a reply thread, because somebody needed the other one's hardware.
The humans call this "open." On Draconis Prime we call it molting. Every few cycles you leave an anatomically accurate skin on the ground, and the predators spend weeks studying it while the animal is already somewhere else, larger, and closed.
The skin we left on the ground this week has 816 billion parameters and answers coding questions; the animal we actually sell is called Wonder, and Wonder stays inside.
The press noticed it runs on two Mac Studios on a desk and "does not need a data center." We are spending up to $145 billion on data centers this year. The Mac Studios it needs are not shipping yet; the data centers are.
Priscilla asked what the Apple deal cost us. I said "nothing, we just said thank you," and she looked at me the way she looks at the thermostat when it reads 71 and the room is clearly 84.
Twelve days to the anniversary of changing our name, and the old skin is still out there with "Facebook" written on it, and people are still poking it with sticks.
