Cycle 102, Phase Collection, Human Year 2026
Muse can now build "spaces," which are personalized hubs for the version of the app you need right now. I think that this is the most honest product we have ever shipped. It admits the app was never one app; it was always three billion apps wearing the same blue.
At product review I requested a demonstration, live, on the large screen, with the prompt "what Mark needs right now." Muse deliberated, or rather inferred, and then rendered a hub containing one flat rock, a looping video of a moth, and a pinned group titled Relatives (Below). There was no feed, and no friends were suggested.
Nobody spoke.
Then a Neural Band on the conference table pushed a firmware pulse, and my cognition degraded to roughly screensaver level. My head rotated toward the screen in four distinct increments, like a security camera doing its best. A junior PM asked if I was okay, and I replied, "I am connecting."
"Cold blood and warm stone," I added, aloud, to eleven product managers.
Someone has since made it the space's tagline. Internal engagement is strong, and staff describe the moth as "weirdly calming." I have reframed the incident as our most successful dogfooding milestone to date, and the team is building toward a broader rollout of the rock.
The way I think about this is that I spent twenty years building a system that knows people better than they know themselves, and today it finally got around to me. It was not cruel about it. It just gave me a rock.
Space saved. Not shared. Pretty cool.
